Below is a six year old dominant male Metriaclima pyrsonotos (aka zebra red dorsal):
A male mbuna from Lake Malawi commonly called the "zebra red dorsal". This is the dominant fish in my 75 gallon tank. As you can see from the picture, the king is the one that gets the most food.
I understand that the Pseudotropheus zebra "red dorsal" has now been classified into four different species depending upon location as follows: Metriaclima sandaracinos from Nkudzi Bay (in the southeast arm of Lake Malawi); Metriaclima pyrsonotos from Nakantenga Island; Metriaclima emmiltos from Mpanga Rocks, off Chilumba; and Metriaclima thapsinogen from Eccles Reef, (north of Chinyankwazi Island). (See the first link below) This cichlid is no longer in the Pseudotropheus genus but it seems that no one can decide for sure if the new genus name should be Metriaclima or Maylandia.
